Sometimes I have pause to think whether I should be in communication with the general public. I can get in trouble just going to the doctor’s office to pick up a prescription.
Now that is a quite simple task one would think.
I have been driving my older Suburban because we fit together like a good pair of Cowboy boots. It is huge and sometimes finding a place to park it can be difficult. They don’t make large parking places for vehicles anymore. Most say compact cars only. Mine takes up about a space and a half.
Enter my doctor's office whose parking places are ALL for compact cars. I drive up to the door when they opened and yes I parked in a compact spot because I was going to be in the office long enough to pick up the prescription off the reception area desk and leave. Maybe a grand total of 2 minutes. There was no one parked on either side of me. NOBODY!
Enter J.Q Public. He is driving a sedan and wants the parking place I am in. Now, I suppose I should have just said OK I can pull out and park somewhere else and let him have the spot.
Conversation: “you're parked in a compact spot, you need to move” “I will just be a couple of minutes” “You say that but you’re a god damn woman and all they do is talk, talk, talk!” “I am tired of women getting their fucking way all the time” “OK while you are yelling at me for parking here I could have been in and out and on my way” Besides There is spots open on all sides of me for 20 spaces, if your in a hurry use those” “I don’t have to use those, I want that one” and at that point he pulls his car directly across my path so I can’t back out.
Then as I walk towards the door he starts to honk his horn. Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep, BEEEEEEEP! Over and over to the point the clinic called the cops. In pulls the Sheriff. He gets out and asks him what his issue is and he tells him. The sheriff tells him there are lots of spots on both sides and to use one of them. He lays on the horn again. “I want you to issue her a ticket” “It says compact cars only”
Sir, I can not issue her a ticket as it is private property and unless the owner wishes me to tow her vehicle I can’t do anything. As I come out he comes over to me and said, can you please move your truck so this gentleman can park here.
I said I would be happy to but he is blocking my way. So the sheriff asks him to move his vehicle so I can get out and he said “Nothing doing she deserves a ticket and until you issue her one I am not moving” Then he lays on the horn again and the sheriff is obviously getting irritated with him. This is an older man maybe in his 70’s or early 80’s. So he is trying to be gentle with him. “Sir you need to move your car so she can pull out” “NO!”
So I get in the truck and back up almost against him. Then, I jumped the curve and drove out and down the clinic’s sidewalk and back on the parking lot. The sheriff came over and said “Well, that’s one way to solve it” I asked if I could go and he said Sure so as I am driving out this guy gets out of his car and gives me the finger. The cop left and the man was frustrated.
What can I say?
Well, if he didn't move the car it he could have been cited for kidnapping. Seriously! He impaired your freedom to move about. Not a citizen arrest if there is no crime. I would chalk it up to Alzheimer's or he forgot to take his meds. Lol
