Why we hunt

OK because I have some private emails on this (as I get every year) let me explain to the new folks why we as an animal loving family hunt. Hunting to us is how we get meat. We eat everything we take (with exception of the deer we take to feed our seniors at meeting.) We waste nothing. We don't hunt for trophies as some have mentioned or the 'rack' In the hunting party there is 10 and none of them took over a 4 point.

So a lesson on deer in general. Twice as many bucks are born each year that does. So if you do the math you will find that if you let all the deer be in a confined space for say 5 years the deer will outgrow the food supply.

Deer are counted each year and that determines how many permits are issued. Each time you take a deer you have to tag it and report your take.
This is done so Fish and Game can keep track. We do love deer and elk but the fact is we would rather take them than see them starve to death in the wild in the dead of winter.

Hunting is a necessary evil and for people who think all the little bambi's are cute (and they are) just remember they can be struggling in the deep winter days.

BTW most the pictures of the deer I have online are ones that are within our property and while we don't hunt those I can't guarantee that others do not outside our property lines.

We hunt in the high country on the mountain. Most deer around here tend to (hide) congregate in the back 40 because they have not be shot at there. The elk as you see bulls way outnumber the cows even in the picture. Is it cruel? You have to make that decision on your own and judge accordingly. Questions answered.
